The Isles 12” Vinyl Record

This album may look straight out of the psychedelic 60s but in fact, “The Isles” is a band thought up by me. This project was created for my Typography III class. Each student was tasked to choose a genre from different decades and create an original band and various branding for that genre. In this facet of the class, I created a 12” vinyl record jacket, sleeve, and label.

Developing this project took a lot of research and experimentation and relied on prior research and brand development. When approaching making an album cover, sleeve, and label, my sketchbook was my main development tool. Keeping in mind my color palette, band logo, and target audience research, I mind-mapped ideas for album concepts. I settled on “Garage Sale” as my album title and began pumping out small sketches until finally, I combined various elements from my sketches until I found a design that seemed to fit the brand.

Overall I was very pleased with how this project turned out. Since 60s psychedelic rock is so fun, and expressive, I feel like I was really able to experiment and have fun with this project. The professor and my classmates seemed to enjoy the branding and appreciated the research, planning, experimentation, and fun that went into the project.
